Pluot-Almond Tart

Crust

I bought my first tart pan the other day. Going in to the kitchen store I feel like a kid in a candy shop so it’s hard to stop myself from buying everything in the store. I have found that it’s a good idea to have a shopping buddy when entering these stores. Someone who can talk you out of buying something you don’t need can be helpful – I did not have a buddy on this particular trip. A tart pan I realize is not completely necessary. I could use a pie dish or a cake pan even, but the cuteness of fluted edges is somehow irresistible – plus with a removable bottom it makes for much cleaner pastry removal.  A kitchen gadget made to bake things both sweet and savory, encircled by a flaky buttery crust? The options are countless and the potential results – yum! There is something about a tart pan that seems very French to me and this my last justification for buying this pan.

Pesto Heirloom Tomato Pizza

Heirloom Tomatoes

I love making pizza – I love any home-made bread. The smell of yeasty goodness is intoxicating and what is so great about pizza is the endless combinations and possibilities. Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil – perfect! Sausage and caramelized onions – yes please! A layer of tomato sauce, a slathering of emerald pesto, some freshly grated mozzarella and thinly sliced heirloom tomatoes – my new favorite!
