I’ve been making pies all day – seriously, all day. How did that happen? Time flies way too fast the day before Thanksgiving. It’s amazing how three desserts can completely consume your life for eight hours. Is it just me that this happens to? Anyways, I wanted to share a few things that I’m thankful for before going out of town for Thanksgiving. I hope you will share some of the things you’re thankful for in the comments.

I did not grow up eating brussels sprouts and can’t say that I ever really liked them. It’s not totally fair to say that I don’t like them because I’ve passed them up whenever possible, meaning I could probably count the amount of times I’ve eaten brussels sprouts on one hand. I really have not tasted enough brussels sprouts to claim I don’t like them but we all hold on to a few childhood dislikes and this is mine… one of them.

I was just sitting down to tell you all about this amazing applesauce, when I noticed that one of my favorite food bloggers had already written about it. She just wrote about it today, right before me! I’ve been very drawn to bread baking lately. I’ve always been a sucker for home made bread and have been through quite a few experiments with it. I’ve tried potato bread, sandwich loaves, french bread, but never found my attempts to be amazingly successful. I think the problem was that I never really learned the tricks to bread making – it turns out the tricks are pretty important.

Ok – I didn’t post anything for Halloween. I thought we would be carving pumpkins and roasting seeds, I even thought I might get around to making this pumpkin seed brittle. But if you remember, I was sick last week and had to scramble to put together a last minute costume on Saturday, leaving no time for pumpkin fun. I still have a bunch of whole pumpkins on my front steps who are very sad to have missed out on Halloween. There’s always next year. I did still feel the need to make something just a little bit festive, so I made orange soup. It’s not spooky and doesn’t include any pumpkin (sorry pumpkins), but it is orange and that will just have to do.
